COLUMBUS, Ohio — Columbus City Schools fired a bus driver after a student was left unattended on one of their buses last week.

According to a statement from the district, the student was left on one of the buses at the Morse Road compound Friday morning. As soon as the district found out about the incident, the transportation department removed the driver from duty and launched an investigation, which has concluded.

Superintendent Dr. Angela Chapman said drivers are required to do safety checks when they return to the compound and after every route.

"So we know now that the driver did not follow the necessary procedures and we have taken the necessary measures to rectify the situation and make sure this negligence does not happen again," Chapman said.
