COLUMBUS, Ohio — Columbus City Schools called for the immediate resignation of board member Brandon Simmons during a special meeting Monday evening.
In the meeting, the Board of Education passed a resolution issuing several restrictions on Simmons, including limiting his ability to enter buildings and communicate with the board.
The board's concerns stem from multiple instances of Simmons showing up on school property for press conferences without notifying the district.
This comes after Simmons reported board members to the state auditor's office for misuse of public funds and the Ohio Ethics Commission.
After the resolution was passed, Simmons walked out of the meeting and Board President Christina Vera addressed the room.
"This is in no shape or form a retaliation. This is about the safety of our students, our staff and I'm really disappointed that we are still here having to deal with this," Vera said.
In a release sent Monday night, the board said they are "committed to transparency and accountability, and this censure reflects our ongoing efforts to maintain a secure environment for all."
In May, the board censured Simmons for the first time following the controversy of a leaked document. That decision came days after board member Sarah Ingles leaked the document, titled “Taking Control of the Task Force Narrative,” which Simmons was the creator of.
After Monday's meeting, the board declined to comment. 10TV reached out to Simmons for comment and have not heard back.
