COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 37-year-old man was shot and killed outside of an apartment building near Hilliard late Wednesday night, according to the Columbus Division of Police. A suspect, a 36-year-old man, was charged with murder in his death.
The dispatch center received a call at 11:15 p.m. about gunshots being fired at Cabot Cove Apartments, located in the 5600 block of Cabot Cove Drive near Hillard Rome Road.
Minutes later, another 911 call came in stating that there was a body lying on the ground and the caller believed that the person was shot.
Officers arrived on Cabot Cove Drive and found a man, identified as Martin Valdivia, on the ground outside of an apartment building. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:42 p.m.
Police found another man, Jose Castaneda, nearby, who officers believed to be the suspect. He was taken into custody to be interviewed by detectives.
Police said a firearm was recovered, but it is not known whether it was used in the shooting.
Detectives believed that the two men knew each other and were involved in an altercation before the shooting happened.
