LOGAN COUNTY, Ohio — Residents in Logan County were busy on Sunday cleaning up after the EF3 tornado that tore through Thursday night.
“My hometown was destroyed. It's devastating, heartbroken,” said Paige Kindle, a Logan County resident.
The Kindle family spent the day picking up tree limbs, scrap metal and trash around their grandfather's home.
Kindle said she got a call from her mother on Thursday night saying her grandpa’s house had been hit.
“I parked at the harbor basically and sprinted down here. Got three people out of houses and got some dogs out,” said Kindle.
Her grandpa’s house is still standing, but the damage is significant.
“He had a tree fall through his backyard and completely destroyed the backyard. A lot of roof damage and the side of his house is bad,” said Kindle.
The family is one of hundreds in Logan County picking up the pieces. Sheriff Randall Dodds said it's been non-stop since Thursday from search and rescue to now the clean-up effort.
“Meal deliveries to people. They are working on bringing up portable showers, portable laundromat,” said Dodds.
The sheriff's office has been doing whatever it can to stay present in the community. Dodds said having a strong presence brings peace to some who are going through some of the worst days.
“It’s good to be out and in contact with the people on the ground. Letting them know that we care and we are here to help,” said Dodds.
Support for the Indian Lake community has poured in from all across the state. From donations to people helping remove debris and provide supplies for rebuilding. That kindness is what is helping families like Kindle’s stay strong.
“The love and support from the Indian Lake community has been the strongest. We are a strong town. We have been through hell this past year. And this just all brought us closer together,” said Kindle.
“This was a tragic thing but I think a lot of good will come out of it too when it’s all said and done,” said Dodds.
