COLUMBUS, Ohio — A trouble sports bar in the Hilltop neighborhood is set to be shut down at the end of the year.
Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein announced on Wednesday that his property action team reached an agreement with the owners of Cain’s Sports bar at 3475 Sullivant Ave.
The bar has been the scene of multiple shootings and other violent crimes, according to Klein’s office, and was under a court order to improve safety and security.
Four people were shot in July 2022 and three people were shot following a fight outside the bar in March 2023.
“We want businesses to succeed, but this bar has proven time and again to be a nuisance to the Sullivant Ave. corridor. Owners have been unable to meet court-ordered safety and security improvements, so I applaud the Property Action Team’s work to get this troubled bar shut down so that we can better protect public safety on the west side,” Klein said.
Court documents state that bar owners failed to hire properly licensed security personnel mandated by a court order and criminal activity continued at the property.
For the remainder of its days in operation, the sports bar is required to initiate the last call by 12:30 am. and close by 1 a.m. Licensed security must be at the property until all guests have left the parking spot.
Additionally, the owners must meet regularly with the city and Columbus police to discuss ongoing compliance and safety concerns.
