The city of Columbus has surpassed the city of San Francisco in population, according to new estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau.
Columbus ranked 14 in the top 15 most populous cities with an estimated population of 892,533, passing San Francisco's 883,305. Those numbers are according to the Census Bureau's population estimates as of July 1, 2018.
The Census Bureau's report released Thursday also says of the top 15 cities or towns with the largest numeric gains between 2017 and 2018, Columbus was the only Midwestern city to make the list with a growth of 10,770 people.
Fort Worth, Texas, is reportedly ahead of Columbus in residents with a population of 895,008.
Columbus wasn't the only Ohio city to get a mention in the report — Newark exceeded the 50,000 population mark in 2018.
