DELAWARE COUNTY, Ohio - Police are investigating a possible homicide after a body was found at Alum Creek State Park.
The Delaware County Sheriff's Office says an officer with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources found what appeared to be a shallow grave near the pull-off area of the park on Thursday evening.
The sheriff's office identified the woman as 28-year-old Brittany D. McDowell of Columbus.
McDowell's grandmother Sharon Halley says her granddaughter had a history of drug abuse and prostitution, but she was still a good person.
"When she wasn't doing drugs, she was kind," Halley said. "She'd do anything for you, try to help you. And she'd still do that even though she was on drugs."
Deputies say due to the injuries observed, they are looking into this as a possible homicide.
Halley says McDowell owed someone money for drugs, and she believes that may be why she's dead.
"Their life's not worth a joint, or a piece of crack, or a needle," Halley said.
Now Halley just wants justice for her granddaughter because her life mattered.
"Just through all this, I hope other families don't have to go through it and other kids don't get out there and get on drugs because this is the result," Halley said. "They're not gonna live."
The Montgomery County Coroner is performing an autopsy to find out exactly how she died.
