Authorities identify kayaker found in Alum Creek Lake

Officials with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources identified the man as 40-year-old Shawn Leasure.

The Delaware County Sheriff's Office has confirmed authorities have recovered the body of a missing kayaker in Alum Creek Lake.

Officials with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources identified the man as 40-year-old Shawn Leasure.

Deputies and ODNR officials were called to the lake Monday evening on the report of a missing kayaker.

Sgt. Andrew Foos with ODNR said two kayakers, one male and one female, were out in the water when the woman's kayak began to capsize trying to get to the shore.

The man tried to help her when he was pulled under and never resurfaced. The woman was able to make it to the shore.

Sgt. Foos said neither kayaker was wearing a life jacket.

During the search Tuesday morning, the Genoa Township Fire Department boat capsized after a wave washed over the bow.

All firefighters were wearing life vest and made it to shore safely. Crews were also able to retrieve the boat.
