DELAWARE COUNTY, Ohio — The Delaware County Sheriff's Office is investigating after ammunition was found inside Olentangy Liberty High School Friday morning.
According to a district spokesperson, a student told a teacher about finding a round of ammunition on the floor of one of a staircase. The teacher notified the building administration and the school resource officer.
The sheriff’s office and Olentangy’s safety and security team were also contacted and worked with the building administration to execute safety protocols and a threat assessment.
The principal said no evidence indicating a threat to the school or an individual was found. No other items of concern were found.
The sheriff's office said the school was not placed on lockdown.
Classes will continue as normal and extra patrols will be in the area and school, according to the school district. Families are advised to not come to the building.
“We are grateful that the student reported their findings to school officials. I would also like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that if you or your child sees something that seems out of place or gives you or your child reason for concern, say something to a school official and utilize the ‘Stay Safe, Speak Up!’ hotline. This allows us to investigate, clarify the facts, check into anything out of the norm, and contributes directly to a safe school environment,” the principal said in an email to parents.
The incident remains under investigation.
