COLUMBUS, Ohio — More than 4,000 AEP Ohio customers were affected by an outage in the Grandview Heights and Upper Arlington areas Monday due to a fire at a power supply station.

According to the power company, a fire caused an outage early Monday morning around 4 a.m. The impacted customers were transferred and their power was restored just after 6 a.m. About 1,600 customers were impacted.

As crews assessed the situation, they determined that critical wires and cables that supply power and control to vital substation components were extensively damaged. An emergency outage affecting a different group of customers was then taken to prevent further damage, AEP Ohio says.

More than 4,000 were without power during the emergency outage. That number is now at 250 as of 3:30 p.m.

The areas without power now are mainly between Grandview Avenue and Northwest Boulevard in the Grandview area and by Kenny and Kinnear roads in Upper Arlington.

The recent outages were reported around 11:30 a.m.

AEP Ohio says power is expected to return to those impacted customers by 7:30 p.m.
