911 calls released from mother charged with murder in her 8-year-old son's death

LaShanda Wilder is charged with murder in her 8-year-old son's death.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — 911 calls released Tuesday reveal LaShanda Wilder, the woman charged with murder in the death of her 8-year-old son, Martonio, called police Friday afternoon to report he was missing.

"My 8-year-old son ran away last night...” Wilder said.

Wilder stated she wasn’t sure what her son was wearing when he left, but she thought he may have been wearing his red and black Nikes. The dispatcher then asked Wilder the last time she saw Martonio.

"We all went to bed last night at like 9:30, 10 o'clock. My backdoor was wide open... Oh man, oh man…” Wilder said.

Before the call ended, she added this isn’t the first time her son has tried to get away.

"He had jumped out my window before I found him on the side of my house. He just, he kinda run away I don't know why, he said he hate me. He said he hate everything, he said he don't care about being here,” Wilder said.

Records from the Franklin County Municipal Court show officers searched the home without success, and the Missing Persons Unit responded.

Detectives had a K-9 cadaver dog called in to search the home. Court records say, at that time, Wilder became "uncooperative" and didn't want the dog inside her home. She left the area with Lowe and two other children.

Around 6:20 p.m. on Friday, a body matching the description of Martonio was found hidden in the home's attic in a trash bag and sleeping bag cover, according to court records. Firefighters pronounced him dead at 6:33 p.m. and foul play was suspected in his death.

Court records say the coroner's office ruled Martonio's death a homicide. Records also say the coroner found "deep neck compression" on the child.

Records reveal officers were called to their home on Olmstead Avenue 22 times over the last year and a half. A call for service was made just one week before this incident for a report of a disturbance. Several of those calls were listed as domestic violence or domestic disputes.

Wilder faces charges of murder and obstruction of justice. Her girlfriend, Johnna Lowe, is also facing an obstruction of justice charge. Both of them are currently being held in the Franklin County Jail.
