911 caller: Westerville man admits to stabbing, killing wife

While no official cause of death has been released, Westerville police released 911 audio recording Tuesday that indicated a woman killed Monday night in her Westerville home may have been stabbed.

WESTERVILLE, Ohio - While no official cause of death has been released, Westerville police released 911 audio recording Tuesday that indicated a woman killed Monday night in her Westerville home may have been stabbed.

According to the 911 audio, the brother of suspect James Gentile called Westerville Police to report that his brother made a rash statement to his other brother over the phone that he “did something really bad.”

According to the 911 call, the man said his brother admitted to stabbing his wife. The man told the dispatcher that Gentile had been drinking and that the couple had recently been going through a divorce.

“I’m very concerned,” the man told Westerville police by phone.

The dispatcher reassured him that they had officers and medics in route to the home Carousel Court in Westerville.

Police records show there had been a previous run to the home in 2016 when the victim, Dana Gentile, had reported her husband missing. James Gentile later admitted that he had been drinking and hid in the crawl space of his basement to sober up.

Police were called to a home near Carousel Court and North Hempstead Road just before 7:30 p.m. Monday night.

James Gentile has been charged with one count of murder.

According to witnesses, police say that James Gentile killed his wife, then left the home. He was arrested a short time later just north of Westerville, and is now behind bars in Franklin County.

According to a social media post by Genoa Township, he was arrested without incident and turned over to Westerville Police.

Investigators from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation are still investigating. The Franklin County Coroner is expected to examine Dana Gentile's body Tuesday to determine how she died.
