WEST COLUMBUS - A 4-year-old child is dead and the child's mother is in critical condition in a fire in west Columbus, according to Franklin Township firefighters.
It started just before 6:30 a.m. Friday in the 1600 block of Humphrey Avenue.
10TV’s Tino Ramos spoke with neighbors who say they awoke to see the home filled with smoke.
When firefighters arrived, they knew there were people inside, so they instantly started searching.
Firefighters found the child in the back bedroom.
The child’s grandmother was also inside. Firefighters say she escaped from the flames.
Arson investigators are looking into what sparked the fire.
