COLUMBUS, Ohio — Four people were injured during a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 270 in northeast Columbus Wednesday afternoon, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The crash was the result of a vehicle pursuit with a trooper.
OSHP says around 3:20 p.m., a trooper was traveling on I-270 when they observed a Kia Sorento, driven by a 26-year-old Hilliard man, traveling at a high speed. The trooper conducted a traffic stop but the man didn't stop, ensuing a pursuit.
The Hilliard man proceeded to exit the interstate before getting back on again, then making a U-turn at an emergency crossover to travel south on I-270. While traveling south on I-270, the man failed to maintain control and hit two vehicles.
One of the vehicles that was struck overturned and came to a rest on its top.
The 26-year-old was taken into custody without further incident and will be charged at a later date. He was transported to Riverside Methodist Hospital for treatment.
A 48-year-old woman was taken to Grant Medical Center with serious injuries. The woman's two juvenile passengers were taken to Nationwide Children's Hospital.
OSHP says impairment is a suspected factor in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
