OSHP: 3 dead after car was hit by semi in Athens County

OSHP says the Malibu was hit in the passenger side by the semi. Both vehicles traveled off the road where they came to a rest.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Three people are dead following a crash involving a semitrailer in Athens County Thursday afternoon.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the two-vehicle crash happened just before 1:30 p.m. on U.S. Route 50. Kody Zimmerman, 31, was driving a Chevrolet Malibu eastbound and was turning left from U.S. Route 50 onto County Road 19 when he was hit by a Peterbilt semi heading westbound.

OSHP says the Malibu was hit in the passenger side by the semi. Both vehicles traveled off the road where they came to a rest.

Zimmerman, along with his two passengers, 25-year-old Jacob Hammond and 24-year-old Mallory Fussner, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
