CHILLICOTHE, Ohio -- Three officers from the Chillicothe Police Department were treated at local hospitals after being injured in an altercation on Tuesday.

The police department said the officers were responding to a disturbance at a home on Cheyenne Drive.

Chillicothe police say one of the officers made contact with Ronald Fisher, who officials say interfered with the officers' investigation. Fisher was then placed in the back of a police cruiser.

Police say as the officers were talking to a woman who lived at the home, a man named Jose Mejia, began swearing at the officers.

According to police, Mejia was told several times to take his hands out of his pockets, but he did not follow the officers' instructions.

The officers then tried to remove Mejia's hands from his pockets, and he began assaulting the officers, hitting them several times in the face and on their heads.

One officer was taken to a Columbus-area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The other two officers were taken to Adena Regional Medical Center. They have both been released.

No shots were fired in the incident, according to police.

Police said Mejia and Fisher were taken to the Ross County Jail.

Mejia is charged with felonious assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and obstructing official business. Fisher is charged with obstructing official business.
