29-year-old shot, killed following alleged roommate dispute in north Columbus; suspect indicted

Brian Sias, 37, has been charged with murder.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 29-year-old man is dead and a suspect has been charged following a shooting in north Columbus Thursday afternoon, according to the Columbus Division of Police.

Officers were called to the 1200 block of Manchester Avenue in North Linden on a report of a roommate dispute just after 1:20 p.m. On the way to the scene, officers were advised that a shooting had taken place at that location.

Once officers arrived, they found 37-year-old Brian Sias outside the home and took him into custody.

Police say they found William Applegate inside the home suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Officers rendered aid until medics arrived, but Applegate was pronounced dead at 1:31 p.m.

Sias was indicted on murder and felonious assault charges. He is being held on a $500,000 bond.

According to court documents, Sias told police that he and Applegate had gotten into an argument about Applegate being asked to move out. The two then allegedly got into a physical altercation.

At the time of the argument, Sias had a gun on his person, records say. Sais claimed that during the altercation, he reached for the gun and fired at Applegate.

Sias' next court date is on May 28.
