2 Lancaster men killed in separate Fairfield County crashes

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Ohio — Two men from Lancaster were killed in separate crashes in Fairfield County on Thursday and Friday, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Before 3 p.m., 41-year-old Avon Stokes was driving west in a 2008 Chevrolet Impala on state Route 188 in Hocking Township.

OSHP says he failed to negotiate a curve and overcorrected, crossing the center and striking an embankment before the vehicle overturned.

Stokes was pronounced dead at the scene.

Around 12:50 a.m. Friday, 37-year-old Brian Swank was heading east on Lithopolis Road in Greenfield Township in a 2020 Harley-Davidson motorcycle when he failed to negotiate a curve. OSHP says He went off the right side of the road, struck a ditch and an embankment and overturned his motorcycle.

Swank was pronounced dead at the scene by the Fairfield County Coroner’s Office.

The crashes remain under investigation.
