Sheriff’s office releases new details, IDs 2 killed in Morrow County gas station shooting

The shooting happened at the Shell gas station on state Route 61 near Interstate 71 in Marengo just before on Feb. 26.

MORROW COUNTY, Ohio — The Morrow County Sheriff’s Office has identified the two people killed at a gas station Sunday night.

The shooting happened at the Shell gas station on state Route 61 near Interstate 71 in Marengo just before 7 p.m.

According to the sheriff’s office, Keith Moser allegedly attempted to steal a car on the northbound off-ramp of state Route 61, resulting in shots fired.

Moser then went to the gas station and attempted to steal a minivan at a gas pump before shots were fired and a female victim was struck.

The female was identified as Meagan Kennedy Stanford of Greenville, S.C. The sheriff’s office said Stanford died at the scene.

Moser then allegedly turned and fired at a U-Haul van that was driven by a male occupant. The male was able to return fire and a fight ensued involving multiple people.

The sheriff’s office said Moser died at the scene of apparent gunshot wounds. The shooting remains under investigation.

Earlier in the day, the Columbus Division of Police said Moser was responsible for stealing two vehicles.

Around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, police said Moser fired shots into an unoccupied, but running, Chevrolet while the owner was in a gas station on Kenny Road. Moser drove off in the Chevrolet and abandoned it on Starret Road.

About five minutes later, police received calls from the 200 block of West Henderson Road about shots being fired during an attempted robbery/home invasion. Moser stole a BMW X3 from nearby residence. Around 6:45 p.m., Moser attempted to rob a food delivery driver in the 400 block of Glenmont Avenue.

The BMW was recovered. Police said no one in the Columbus incidents was injured.
