NEWARK, Ohio — The Newark Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred in Newark Friday night.
Authorities say it happened just after 9 p.m. in the 1000 block of Ridgelawn Avenue.
According to Newark Police, 12-year-old Isabella Barnes was shot on the front porch of her home. She was transported to Licking Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Police say the suspect, 18-year-old Keegan Mummey, fled the scene following the shooting. Authorities later spotted him on a bicycle on State Route 79 between Heath and Hebron and stopped him in the area of U.S. 40.
Detectives arrested Mummey, who is charged with aggravated murder.
Newark police are now asking for the public's help after they say Mummey may have discarded a firearm after leaving the scene. Anyone who discovers any type of weapon, especially a firearm, should call 911 immediately and not attempt to handle it.
