Police ID man fatally stabbed in east Columbus; arrest warrant filed for suspect

According to the Columbus Division of Police, officers were called to the 600 block of South Napoleon Avenue around 12:11 p.m. for a report of a stabbing.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Division of Police has identified a 25-year-old man who was fatally stabbed in east Columbus last week and issued an arrest warrant for a suspect.

Officers were called to the 600 block of South Napoleon Avenue around 12:11 p.m. for a report of a stabbing on Aug. 1.

Arriving officers found one person, later identified as Julian Medina-Alvarez, and medics took him to Ohio State University East Hospital in critical condition where he later died at 2:26 p.m.

Detectives have filed an arrest warrant charging Jose Luis Bautista, 26, with murder.

Police say that Medina-Alvarez and Bautista both resided at the same house on South Napoleon Avenue. Bautista was seen stabbing Medina-Alvarez who escaped the attack by running to neighboring residences for help.

Bautista was last seen fleeing from the area on foot.

The investigation is ongoing.
