Motorcyclist dies after crashing into construction vehicle on I-70 in west Columbus

Police said they were called on a report of a crash just before 10:50 p.m. on I-70 West near state Route 315.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A motorcyclist died after crashing his vehicle into a construction vehicle on Interstate 70 West in west Columbus Thursday night, according to police.

Just before 10:50 p.m., police say Russel Parsley was driving a 1998 Harley Davidson Electra Glide west on I-70 toward state Route 315 when it lost control.

Parsley ran off the left side of the road into the gore area between I-70 West and the ramps to I-71 South/state Route 315 North. Police say he laid the motorcycle down and slid into the back of a parked construction vehicle.

Parsley was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead at 11:23 p.m.

Police say the construction vehicle was preparing for a lane closure on I-70 West and was surrounded by orange construction barrels. There were two people inside the vehicle when it was struck, but police did not say whether they were injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
