COLUMBUS, Ohio — One person is in custody following an attempted break-in at a building in the Hilltop neighborhood Tuesday morning, police said.

Around 5:20 a.m., the Columbus Division of Police received a report of someone attempting to break into a building in the area of West Broad Street and South Burgess Avenue.

A public safety dispatcher told 10TV that an officer fired their weapon, but no one was struck by gunfire.

Additional information on the situation was not immediately available.

Brian Steel, the president of the Columbus chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police, said the critical incident response team was called to the scene. The team is called if a suspect is not struck by gunfire or if an officer accidentally discharged their weapon, according to Steel.
