COLUMBUS – Columbus Police are investigating a deadly crash in east Columbus.
It happened just before 1 p.m. Sunday on East Broad Street at the Interstate 270 north ramp. The crash killed 35-year-old Samuel Maxwell.
According to a press release from Columbus police, Maxwell was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of East Broad Street when he collided with a vehicle driven by Julia A. Wilhelm, 42, and then collided with a vehicle being driven by Vikki Smith, 56.
Wilhelm was transported to Grant Medical Center with internal injuries. This was the 44th traffic fatality in Columbus this year.
Authorities told 10TV I-270 southbound to Broad Street was closed. The road reopened at 3:57 p.m.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
