COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Division of Police has identified the person killed in a shooting on Friday in south Columbus as an 18-year-old man.
Police were called to the 2900 block of Southfield Drive on a report of a shooting around 1:15 p.m. When they arrived, they found a victim, identified as Raheem Dawkins, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Medics took Dawkins to Grant Medical Center in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead, according to police.
Police said a man identified himself at the scene as the person who shot Dawkins. His name is being withheld by police at this time.
He claims self-defense and alleges that Dawkins assaulted him, police said.
Police are still investigating the shooting and say the man is cooperating with detectives.
