Coroner's office identifies man who died in Hilliard crash involving COTA bus

The coroner's office said the driver may have had medical complications at the time of the crash.

HILLIARD, Ohio — The Franklin County Coroner's Office released the identity of the man who died following a crash involving a COTA bus in Hilliard Monday evening. 

The Hilliard Division of Police received a call about a crash on Cemetery Road near Outer Street around 8 p.m., a city spokesperson told 10TV. 

Officials said 79-year-old Sami Khater was driving in the wrong lane when he went left of center and struck the COTA bus head-on. A spokesperson for COTA added the bus was at a transit stop picking up a customer when the crash happened. 

Khater was extracted from his vehicle and taken to Dublin Methodist Hospital where they were pronounced dead at 8:38 p.m. 

The coroner's office said Khater may have had a medical complication around the time of the crash.

No other injuries were reported.
