Man dead after crash on I-70 in east Columbus

The crash happened on I-70 at the South James Road interchange Monday night.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man died after crashing his SUV on Interstate 70 in east Columbus Monday night.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, officers were called to the westbound lanes of I-70 near South James Road around 10:30 p.m.

Police said 33-year-old Tommy Edwards was driving a Chevrolet Suburban west on I-70 approaching the South James Road interchange when it swerved and crashed into the center cable barrier. The vehicle rolled into the center median of the freeway.

Edwards was ejected from the vehicle.

He was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition. He died from his injuries at 10:52 p.m.
