Police: 1 dead, 2 injured after hit-and-run crash on I-270 in east Columbus

The southbound lanes of I-270 will be closed for at least a couple of hours.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — One person was killed and two others were injured in a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 270 in east Columbus Tuesday night.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, officers were called to the southbound lanes of I-270 south of East Broad Street around 10 p.m.

One person was taken to Mount Carmel East hospital in critical condition where they were pronounced dead at 10:38 p.m.

Two other people were also injured in the crash and they were taken to Mount Carmel East hospital in what police described as "stable" condition.

Sgt. Joe Albert said the three victims were standing on the shoulder outside of their vehicle when a vehicle struck them. A description of the vehicle was not available.

The southbound lanes of I-270 will be closed for at least a couple of hours. Traffic is being diverted to the East Broad Street exit.
