Police: Man killed, 2 injured in hit-and-run crash on I-270 in east Columbus

The southbound lanes of I-270 were closed for hours as detectives investigated the crash.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man was killed and two others were injured in a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 270 in east Columbus Tuesday night.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, officers were called to the southbound lanes of I-270, south of East Broad Street, around 10 p.m. where they found three men who were struck by a vehicle. Police said the men were outside of a vehicle parked along the berm.

One of them was taken to Mount Carmel East hospital in critical condition where he was pronounced dead at 10:38 p.m. The man was identified as 54-year-old Rafat Juaidi. 

The other men were also injured in the crash and they were taken to Mount Carmel East hospital in what police described as "stable" condition.

The suspect vehicle was described as a beige-colored Chevrolet Malibu. The model may be from 2008 to 2012 and there is right front damage to the vehicle.

The southbound lanes of I-270 were closed for hours as detectives investigated the crash. The lanes reopened shortly after 1 a.m.
