Police: Motorcyclist dead, passenger seriously injured following west Columbus crash

The driver and passenger inside the GMC truck involved in the crash were not injured.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A motorcyclist is dead and their passenger is seriously injured following a crash in west Columbus Thursday evening, police said.

Officers with the Columbus Division of Police were called to the area of Norton Road and Wesliegh Run Drive around 8:30 p.m. on a report of a crash involving a motorcycle.

Police said a GMC truck was heading north on Norton Road and turning left on Clairbrooke Avenue. That was when a motorcyclist and a passenger were heading south on Norton Road and struck the back of the truck as it was turning. 

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives have not released the motorcyclist's identity. The passenger of the motorcycle was transported to Grant Medical Center in critical condition. 

The driver and passenger inside the truck were not injured. 

The area where the crash occurred has reopened.
