1 dead, 1 hurt following crash in southeast Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio — One person is dead, and another person was hurt after a crash Saturday morning in southeast Columbus.

Columbus police say the crash happened around 1:40 a.m. in the area of Winchester Pike and Refugee Road.

Police said a driver of a Nissan Pathfinder crossed the centerline in an attempt to pass a tractor-trailer when they struck an oncoming motorcycle.

The driver of the motorcycle, identified as 25-year-old Mutaquin Mitchell was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger on his motorcycle was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition.

This is the 43rd reported fatal crash, resulting in 46 deaths, this year in Columbus.
