The LeVeque Tower is slated for a makeover.
The tower once stood as one of the tallest building in the world.
“It’s actually a little bit taller than the Washington Monument in Washington D.C.,” said Bob Loversridge of Schooley Caldwell and Associates, which is working on the building’s makeover. “That was done deliberately.”
The tower was not just there for looks, 10TV’s Kristyn Hartman reported.
“What most people don’t know is that the lower part is larger because it used to be a hotel,” Loversridge said. “There was actually a 600-room addition to the Deshler-Wallick Hotel that was on the corner of Broad and High (streets).”
New plans to renovate the building could restore some of the old look. Crews will work to brighten the interior and exterior of the building.
“It’ll be a destination place, when you come in these front doors and the arches, you’ll be welcomed into the building in a way that we haven’t seen in a long time here,” Loversridge said.
The tower's top two floors are home to a renter now, but the penthouse resident wishes to remain anonymous. The third floor, which now sits empty, once was an apartment owned by Katherine LeVeque and her family.
Loversridge said that the makeover will give the building a less “tired” look.
