Lancaster Couple Found Dead In Apparent Murder-Suicide

Investigators say a hand-written note left at the scene may be the key to solving the crime.

A man and a woman are dead after an apparent murder-suicide in a Lancaster home early Wednesday morning.

Police said they received a call about the shooting on Coldspring Drive around 1 a.m.

911 calls from a family member of Robert and Ruth Van Evra reveal Robert admitted to shooting Ruth and was going to turn the gun on himself.

On the call, the family member said Ruth was ill, and recently had a doctor's appointment. The caller indicated Robert was the primary caretaker.

When police arrived, they found Ruth lying on the bedroom floor, shot and dead. Her husband was found lying on the bed with a gunshot wound to the head.

Robert was taken to the Fairfield Medical Center, where he later died.

Police said both victims were in their 80’s.

Investigators say a hand-written note left at the scene may be the key to solving the crime.
