During taped interviews, Matthew Hoffman told detectives he thought he was crazy and claimed hecould not remember fatally stabbing three people and kidnapping a 13-year-old girl.

10TV News spent hours reviewing videotaped interviews between Hoffman and investigators as hetransitioned from the silent treatment, to tears, to claims of loss of memory.

After days of interrogation, Hoffman admitted to fatally stabbing Tina Herrmann, 32; her son,Kody Maynard, 11; and family friend, Stephanie Sprang, 41.

The three were killed on Nov. 10 at Herrmann's King Beach Drive home, but their bodies were notfound until Nov. 18, after an intense search that made national headlines.

The day Hoffman was arrested he gave investigators the silent treatment, and resorted to whatappeared to be sign language, 10TV's Maureen Kocot reported on Wednesday.

On Nov. 15, an FBI agent broke Hoffman's silence.

"I think I'm crazy," he told the agent. "I (inaudible) do something bad. I wouldn't be here if Ididn't. I'm afraid to even know what it was I did."

The recordings revealed emotional interviews with Hoffman as detectives pleaded with him todisclose the location of the bodies.

For two days, Hoffman remained adamant that he could not remember.

"I would help you guys if I could," Hoffman said. "I don't know.  I can't think of it."

Two days later Hoffman told his attorney that investigators would find the victim's dismemberedbodies inside a hollowed out tree in rural Knox County.

10TV News also obtained video taken by investigators inside of Hoffman's home that showed bagsof leaves lining the walls of the house.

The video also showed the 13-year-old girl's makeshift bed in the basement, which was a pile ofleaves covered in blankets.

In exchange for his cooperation, and a detailed confession, prosecutors agreed not to seek thedeath penalty.

Hoffman pleaded guilty to all charges on Jan. 6. He faced a total of 10 counts, includingaggravated murder, gross abuse of a corpse, burglary, kidnapping and raping the teenage girl. Hewas sentenced to live in prison with no possibility of parole.
