Reynoldsburg’s police chief resigned and said he planned to retire Friday after being put on paid administrative leave in February pending an investigation into a controversial stop late last year.
The investigation report was released Friday, and the report called for Chief David Suciu to be suspended for three days and receive a written reprimand, 10 Investigates’ Paul Aker reported.
Suciu, 50, told Aker that he was eligible for retirement and decided to take it. He has been with the Reynoldsburg Division of Police since August 2004 and previously served with the Zanesville Police Department.
In February, Mayor Brad McCloud said that Suciu was placed on administrative leave to “maintain transparency,” 10 Investigates’ Paul Aker reported.
An internal affairs investigation was launched after a 10 Investigates’ report showed that Reynoldsburg police tracked a woman, identified as the ex-girlfriend of a married officer, using OnStar after she texted the officer threatening to kill herself or force police to shoot herself in December.
The woman was involved in an alleged weapons crime, Aker reported.
Pickerington police stopped the woman but were not told by Reynoldsburg police that she had a gun, Aker reported.
Pickerington police said that they objected when a Reynoldsburg officer put cuffs on the woman and started to put her in his patrol car.
The Reynoldsburg Division of Police investigated whether the gun found in the woman’s possession was a non-duty firearm owned by the Reynoldsburg officer.
