Two Ohio State Highway Patrol officers have been disciplined after their actions led to a near-fatal shooting.

According to The Columbus Dispatch, Sgt. Jeff Shane was demoted and Dispatcher Matthew Prachar was disciplined in connection with a July 27 incident.

Shane, who is now on road patrol out of Chillicothe, picked up two teenagers wanted on murder charges and gave them a ride to a truck stop, where they allegedly shot a man in the head and stole his car.

Prachar, who took Shane’s call with the teens’ license plate number, typed in the wrong letter to the system.
