Study Shows That Nearly Half Of 2-Month-Old Babies Have Flat Spots On Heads

A new study published in the Journal of Pediatrics found that more than 46 percent of babies have flat heads from sleeping on their backs. Find out more.

A new study published in the Journal of Pediatrics has found that more than 46 percent of babies have flat heads from sleeping on their backs.

The flat areas are caused by pressure on a baby's skull.

Experts say they are generally harmless and, in most cases, disappear by the time the baby is 18-months-old.

The condition can also be treated with specialized helmets worn after six months.

Doctors say they believe the increase could be blamed on recommendation that parents place sleeping infants on their backs to help reduce the risk of SIDs.
