Columbus hospitals announce first babies born in 2024

Govanni weighs in at six pounds and two ounces.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Mount Carmel East and The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center have welcomed the first babies born in the new year.

Mount Carmel announced that their first baby was born at 1:08 a.m. on Jan. 1. Govanni Cherfils weighed in at six pounds and two ounces and was 20 inches tall.

The hospital said both Govanni and his parents are doing well.

Govanni is the first baby born in 2024 for Mount Carmel Health Systems.

At Wexner Medical Center, the first baby born in the new year was a girl born at 12:57 a.m. The hospital shared that she weighed 7 pounds, 2 ounces and was 20 and a quarter inches tall.
