WORTHINGTON, Ohio — Worthington City Schools officials announced the 2020-21 school year will now begin on Monday, August 31.
This is an adjustment from the district's previously announced start date of Wednesday, August 19.
The date was changed based on recommendations from Worthington teachers and Columbus Public Health.
Officials say the change will also allow the district to make sure the district's hybrid model gets off to a successful start.
The district may also have all students start the school year with remote learning, because of concerns over increasing coronavirus case numbers.
The district's plans during the school year would change based on the state's alert system for determining high-risk counties for COVID-19:
- Level 1 or 2: Students would go to schools five days a week.
- Level 3: Schools move to a hybrid model where students learn remotely at least two days a week
- Level 4: Students and staff would work from home
Face coverings will be required for all K-12 students who return to schools on the bus, in the hallways and in classrooms.
The district says when students are appropriately distanced in class, the teacher can allow "mask breaks."
Masks will also be required for staff, and they will need to report their temperatures and any symptoms daily.
