A fight between two female students on a Groveport Madison school bus was caught on camera and posted online, 10TV’s Glenn McEntyre reported Friday.
The confrontation between the two Groveport Madison Middle School North students was recorded on a cell phone camera by another student and posted on Facebook, where it prompted a flurry of comments.
“It’s almost like a big joke for everybody,” parent Cristy Leitenberger said.
Leitenberger said that she was troubled by the violence and the recent trend of sharing it online.
“Everybody’s going to see it, and you’re going to be constantly remembered by it,” Leitenberger said.
Last fall, 10TV News reported on another incident, at Groveport High School, where about a dozen students took part in an organized fight in the gym locker room. District officials described the incident as a “fight club.”
Like Thursday’s incident, the fight club was recorded and posted to Facebook, McEntyre reported.
Groveport Madison Dean of Students Rich Playko called the fight “unacceptable behavior.”
According to the district’s student handbook, students are prohibited from fighting and from recording or transmitting pictures or video of any student, staff member or other person without prior notification and explicit consent.
According to a district spokeswoman, the two girls involved in the fight and the student who recorded the fight were suspended.
The district declined further comment about the incident, McEntyre reported.
