Gathering Held For Community Dealing With Teen Suicides At Jonathan Alder High School

Two young deaths in two weeks has the community of Plain City reeling.  Both were suicides, both students at Jonathan Alder High School.

The church community has responded with a mass prayer gathering.  The crowd joined hands and bowed heads, praying for a high school and a whole community.

"It's broke us and we're all trying to figure out how to get back together," said student Elysha Hamid.  She was friends with one of the two teens who took his life recently.  "We don't know what to do with this, Jonathan Alder's never dealt with this before."

So local pastors stepped in.

"Great deal of concern, this is a small town and honestly, things like this don't happen every day," said Plain City Vineyard church Pastor Mike Coats.

They realize healing needed to happen across the city.

"Allow the community to come together and grieve, allow the community to come together to express their sense of loss,' added Coats.

So they gathered to pray and to sing praises.  And hope that starting a conversation about the difficult issue of suicide will help stop it.

"What can we do about this, is there something we can do so this doesn't happen again?"  said Coats.

The school has offered grief counseling and students say they're being encouraged to communicate and being told suicide shouldn't be the answer.
