The former police chief of a southeastern Ohio village is among those indicted by a grand jury on drug charges.

The Athens County prosecutor said Thursday that former Chauncey police chief Charles Wachenschwanz was among four people indicted on charges that they participated in a drug ring based in the village of Glouster.

Charges against the 46-year-old Wachenschwanz include cultivating marijuana, engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, and endangering children. Wachenschwanz's 50-year-old wife Patsy was indicted on a count of endangering children.

The Athens Messenger reports that Wachenschwanz was removed as Chauncey police chief in 2001. He was in jail Friday. No attorney information was available.

Prosecutors expect more charges will be filed in connection with the drug ring.
