Firefighters Battle Fire at Owens Corning Plant

Firefighters from multiple agencies battle fire at the Owens Corning plant in Newark. Get the story.

Firefighters from multiple agencies responded to a two-alarm fire at the Owens Corning Plant in Newark. It's located at 400 Case Avenue.

Smoke was visible from the building, but no flames were seen.

Fire officials on scene said it happened around 8:30 p.m. Saturday at a warehouse used by Owens Corning. Large bulk bails of fiberglass insulation caught fire. It happened during production of those bails, where a hot batch started smoldering.

More than 20 units were on the scene by 10 p.m. and crews were able to get the fire under control by 10:30 p.m.

Once fire was contained, heavy machinery had to be brought in to move the smoldering insulation out of the building.

Officials say there were no injuries and minimal damage to the actual building structure.

Dispatchers are not reporting any injuries at this time.
