Firefighter Killed While Battling Brush Fire Identified

Authorities have identified the 26-year-old fireman who was killed when an end cap blew off a pressurized tank being used to fight brush fires near the Ross-Vinton County line.

Authorities have identified the firefighter who was killed Friday while battling a brush fire inRoss County.

Ryan Seitz, 26, a volunteer fireman with the McArthur Fire Department in Vinton County, waskilled when an end cap blew off a pressurized metal tank and struck him, 10TV News reported.

The tank was being used to fight fires that broke out near the Ross-Vinton County line.

A second firefighter from Vinton County was injured in the blast.  Details on his identityand condition were not immediately available.

About 20 homes in the Londonderry area, on state Route 327 between U.S. Route 50 and Poes RunRoad were evacuated earlier on Friday because of the fires.  Residents were allowed to returnto their homes at about 8 p.m.

Fire departments and emergency crews from other counties came to the Londonderry area to assistwith the firefight.

Other counties in central Ohio, including  Madison and Pickaway, dealt with similar fireson Friday.

Authorities in Madison County said multiple fields near state Route 38 caught fire on Fridayafternoon, 10TV's Maureen Kocot reported.  

A field fire was also reported in Galloway, along Elnora Drive, in Prairie Township.

The fires in Madison and Pickaway counties were extinguished by Friday evening.

The National Weather Service said winds between 20 and 30 mph, with higher gusts of up to 40 mphwere reported.
