Fire Destroys Grocery Store

A family owned grocery store was destroyed by fire early Monday morning.

Fire crews were dispatched to Don's IGA, located at 633 Charleston Pike, shortly after 6 a.m.,10TV's Tracy Townsend reported.

Investigators believe that a refrigerator trailer that was parked behind the business to make adeliver might have sparked the fire that spread quickly to the roof.

"By the time the delivery truck driver and store employees realized it was on fire, it hadextended to the roof and the ceiling," said Springfield Township Fire Chief Tim Karshner. "(Employees) had to get out of the store, leaving behind purses and car keys."

No injuries were reported.

The store's owner, Donald Crabtree, told the Chillicothe Gazette that all 37 employees were told to find new jobs.

"I can only pay them for last week," Crabtree told the newspaper.  "I've been asking themhow many hours they worked because all the time cards burned up."
