Extradition Hearing Today For Accused Logan County Killer

A man accused of killing a Bellefontaine woman could be back in Ohio as early as today, if he chooses not to fight extradition. Get the latest from 10TV.com.

The man accused in the slaying of a Logan County woman and suspected in the disappearance of acouple missing for more than a week was scheduled to attend an extradition hearing on Thursday thatwould determine whether he would be returned to Ohio.

The hearing for Samuel Littleton was scheduled for 1 p.m. in Mercer County, W.Va., 10TV's GlennMcEntyre reported.

While it is possible that Littleton, 37, could be back in Ohio on Thursday, he could remain inWest Virginia for up to 90 days if he decides to fight the extradition process.

On Thursday morning, Littleton appeared before a magistrate and was served a copy of a fugitivearrest warrant.  He said nothing as he was walked into the courtroom wearing an orange jailjumpsuit with bandage on his right arm, presumably where he was bitten by a police dog during hiscapture, McEntyre reported.

Littleton said nothing during the court proceeding, aside from whispering in the ear of hispublic defender when he was asked for his address.

After being interrogated for several hours on Wednesday, Littleton was moved to the SouthernRegional Jail in West Virginia, where he was placed in isolation and put on suicide watch, McEntyrereported.

He has had no visitors since being booked at the jail, authorities said.

Little faces several charges stemming from the death of Tiffany Brown.  Brown, 26, ofBellefontaine, was found slain last week in the basement of the home where Littletonlived.   Investigators have not elaborated on the possible relationship between the two,but they have said that Littleton dated Brown's mother.

Littleton was also sought in connection with disappearance of a Logan County couple.  Dickand Gladis Russell vanished last week and have not been seen since.

Their car was found on Tuesday evening, abandoned at a Walmart in Princeton, W.Va.  It wasthe same Walmart near where Littleton was apprehended on Wednesday.

According to West Virginia State Police, Littleton was captured after a brief foot chase withofficers in a wooded area behind the store.  The search for Littleton intensified in southernWest Virginia this week after his father tipped off authorities that his son was in the area.

There has been no word on the fate of the Russells, although family members told 10TV News thatLogan County authorities told them that their recovered vehicle showed signs of foul play. Blood was found in the trunk and on the passenger side of the vehicle, 10TV's Tino Ramosreported.

During a news conference on Wednesday afternoon, the Bellefontaine police chief said he was notoptimistic that the couple would be found alive.

In Logan County, people held a vigil for the Russells on Wednesday night.  Organizers werealso planning to conduct searches of the area on Saturday in the hopes of finding clues related totheir disappearance.
