Ex-Ohio State Football Player Faces Drug Charges

Former Ohio State offensive lineman T.J. Downing faces several charges, including drugtrafficking, after his arrest over the weekend.

According to court records, Downing, 24, was arrested on Sunday after a traffic stop near WestFifth Avenue and Cambridge Boulevard in Grandview Heights.

Police said that cocaine and 53 oxycodone pills were found inside Downing's car, 10TV's KurtLudlow reported.

Police said they also found a loaded .40-caliber gun wrapped in a pair of blue jeans in thetrunk.

Courts records showed that Downing was charged with one count of drug trafficking and two countsof felony drug possession and abuse. He was also charged with one count of improperly handlingfirearms inside a motor vehicle.

Downing, who played for the Buckeyes from 2003-2007, earned first-team All-Big 10 honors in 2006after starting all 13 games at right guard.

Downing, who now lives in Sunbury, attended high school in Canton and signed to play football atOhio State in 2002. He chose Ohio State over the University of Michigan, where his father playedcollege football.

Downing was a member of the 2007 Ohio State football team that fell in the national championshipgame to Florida.

After his college career, Downing signed with the Arizona Cardinals of the National FootballLeague. Citing personal reasons, Downing left the team a few months later.
