In the heart of town and in the middle of Main Street there sits a special mailbox that welcomes the tiniest of hands and the biggest of dreams.
Children in Lancaster dropped off letters, Sunday, at the mailbox that will go directly to Santa Claus at the North Pole.
Each letter is handwritten with words of joy and anticipation with a child’s wish list for Christmas Day.
The connection was made possible by Bethany Alexander Mills.
“I think everything’s contagious, so we might as well spread joy,” she said.
Her business, Mills Realty, partnered with the local non-profit The Key to Giving to help out “the big man.”
“Santa reached out to us and wanted to help,” she said. “He wanted his own postal service.”
And with a direct connection to the North Pole that means more time for children to check their list twice.
“Santa will come pick it up and he’ll know where I live and what I want and maybe I’ll get it,” Aydin Shields said.
Mills Realty placed five drop-off mailbox locations around Lancaster this holiday season. Sunday was the final day for children to drop off letters. This was the third year Mills Realty has provided the service to the public.
Mills says about 600 letters have been collected this year and each child will receive a response from Santa by Christmas morning. She says businesses can get involved with their own Santa mailboxes next year, by contacting The Key to Giving.
