The Florida Highway Patrol says eight people died and 10 others were injured when a passenger van ran through a stop sign, crossed all lanes of a highway and landed in a canal in rural southwest Florida.
The crash happened around 12:30 a.m. early Monday in Glades County at an intersection. Glades County is located about 60 miles east of Fort Myers.
Lt. Gregory S. Bueno says there were 18 people on the van. The driver and seven passengers are confirmed dead. The 10 other passengers were taken to four hospitals.
