WHITEHALL, Ohio — The Whitehall Board of Education voted to rescind the decision to not renew the superintendent’s contract in a 3-2 vote.
The board will now have time to discuss the contract in full.
The decision to not renew Dr. Sharee Wells’ contract came at the board's Dec. 14 meeting.
During Thursday night’s meeting, many people in the community spoke out asking why there hasn’t been an explanation for why the board decided not to renew Dr. Wells’ contract.
Many community members called for transparency, while board member Jayne Shannon said they can’t legally speak on the situation at this time, but they understand how important this process is.
Eric Terford said he wants Dr. Wells to continue leading the school in the right direction.
"The first superintendent that ever invited me to meet with in a public setting was Dr. Wells and as a parent that means everything,” he said.
Newly appointed board member Lorena Lacey said she believes Dr. Wells is the leader the district needs.
"We have to have these discussions as a full board, not as individuals, not as just small groups of the board. It has to be the entire board,” said Lacey.
Lacey said they can now further investigate and look at any reason why Dr. Wells's contract should not be renewed, but finished in saying, “I don't think we're going to find any reasons that we shouldn't renew it."
When asked for an interview Dr. Wells declined, but did say she looks forward to working and serving the district.
Lacey said the superintendent’s contract is up in July and hopes to have a decision made well before that.
