MARYSVILLE, Ohio — The Marysville Exempted Village School District announced Thursday evening that they will be closed on Friday due to staff shortages and unexpected absences due to illness in their transportation department.
The district said that there will be no remote learning for students. For Ohio High Point students, the shuttle from Marysville High School will still run in the morning and the afternoon.
School principals will be communicating specifics about building level after-school activities. The SACC program will operate under emergency weather school day off protocol.
"We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding during this challenging time," the district said in a Facebook post.
In September, Marysville Superintendent Diane Allen said they were down 12 bus drivers.
“We have zero subs on our sub list. If we reach a point where certainly people get sick, we don’t have enough people to go around,” said Allen.
Leaders with the Marysville school board say they've seen an overwhelming amount of growth in the district, which means more students are taking the bus, and not enough drivers are on staff to keep up.
It's currently unknown if the district has since hired any more bus drivers.
